Studies of race tend to be difficult because – as biologists note – race is a social construct without a biological definition. In contrast, colorism – or prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone – is something we can objectively study. More specifically, one can measure the darkness of a person’s skin tone. Previous research has looked at how skin tone impacts wages and voting for the MVP award in the NBA. In this study, look at how skin tone impacts salaries in the WNBA. We believe this is the first study to look at either skin tone or wages in the WNBA.
